Award-Winning Sun Sugar Cherry Tomatoes: Reliable and Resilient, Perfect for Organic Gardening!

Sun Sugar is a hybrid cherry tomato variety that has been thriving in my garden for over a year. Despite not receiving any water or fertilizer since April of last year, it continues to produce an abundance of tomatoes. Growing up and over a 6 foot trellis and trailing back down to the ground, this plant looks incredibly healthy with no leaf loss anywhere. It's enough to provide plenty of tomatoes to keep the whole neighborhood supplied!
I am attempting to take cuttings from this plant so I can clone it, and after hearing about its success I decided to add two more plants into the mix. This got me thinking about a story I heard 20 years ago when visiting San Diego. A friend had a Santa Rosa plum tree that was at least 15 feet tall, requiring a ladder to reach the plums. But what surprised me was the bright red spots on the crown of the tree - they were cherry tomatoes! My friends told me they had purchased them from Home Depot, but joked that their performance must have been due to being fertilized by the dog.
This tale reminded me how resilient Sun Sugar is as well as other varieties of cherry tomatoes. Even though Sun Sugar is a hybrid, I might still save some seeds from it in case I get lucky! If you have the space and inclination, saving seeds from your own tomato plants can be a fun thing to do. Who knows what kind of success you will find?I have been growing Sun Sugar for over a year now and it has never failed to produce an abundance of tomatoes. The plant is incredibly hardy, withstanding extreme temperatures and drought conditions without any problems. It's also very disease resistant, which makes it ideal for organic gardening. I'm sure that if you give this variety the right care, you will be rewarded with plenty of delicious cherry tomatoes!
Sun Sugar is definitely one of my favorite varieties in the garden - not only does it look beautiful but its performance speaks volumes about how resilient hybrid plants can be when given proper care. If you're looking for a reliable tomato variety that produces lots of fruit even under difficult conditions then Sun Sugar might just be what you need!

What was the story about the cherry tomato vine growing through a plum tree?
About 20 years ago, someone visiting San Diego noticed spots of bright red in their Santa Rosa plum tree. Upon closer inspection, they realized it was a cherry tomato that had vined right up through the plum tree and was loaded with fruit. The plum tree was fully mature and at least 15 feet tall, and there were tomatoes right at the crown of the tree! The variety was an anonymous cherry tomato purchased at Home Depot.
