Choosing the Right Tomato Variety for Your Garden - Is Goliath Giant Early Bush VFFN Worth Growing?

Goliath Giant Early Bush Hybrid Tomato VFFN is a variety of tomato that has been around for many years. It was first introduced by Wayne Hilton in his Seeds n Such catalog and it is advertised to have a 49 day days-to-maturity (DTM).
I grew Goliath and Goliath Bush next to each other a few years ago and I couldn't tell them apart. They ripened behind Early Girl, with an estimated DTM of 60. The tomatoes were not awful, but they were more firm than I like.
Last season, I bought some seeds from Seeds N Such including the Goliath Giant Early Bush VFFN. Although the description said the fruits would be 14 to 20 ounces, as big as Big Beef, my results weren't very impressive. The tomatoes were much later than advertised, and smaller than expected at only 8 ounces. Additionally, most of the fruit were lost due to wet weather conditions.
The varieties that performed better in my garden included Alice's Dream, Beefmaster, Great White, Great White Blues, Lucid Gem & Moldovan Green.
Recently, a new variety called Buffalo Bomber F1 was released which is specifically designed to withstand winds near Buffalo, NY. It is mid to late season, semi-determinate with large red fruits up to one pound, and offers outstanding taste when grown right. There is also an open pollinated version available which is less expensive.
Overall, I wouldn't recommend growing Goliath Giant Early Bush VFFN as it did not perform well in my garden. If you are looking for a tomato that is early, large and flavorful, I would suggest trying one of the other varieties mentioned above.
Tomatoes can be an enjoyable addition to any garden if grown correctly. It's important to choose the right variety for your climate and soil conditions in order to get the best results. With so many different types available, it can be difficult to decide which one will work best in your garden. Doing some research beforehand will help ensure success with whatever variety you choose!
